A company outing on the water solves two problems at once. The first is participation: there is no physical barrier, no competition and no moment where anyone feels out of place. The second is how conversations work. In a function room you talk to whoever happens to sit next to you; on a sloop, the company shifts naturally.
What the outing looks like mainly depends on the time of day. A morning cruise with coffee and cake is a very different outing from afternoon drinks or an evening cruise with food on board, and the price difference is considerable.
The main boat seats thirty colleagues. For larger organisations, small electric boats cruise along around the sloop, or we schedule two trips back to back.
A different outing for every time of day
Morning cruise with coffee and cake
An hour and a half, from € 30,- per person. The most affordable format and ideal when the cruise is part of a working day: a quarterly kick-off, a short meeting break or the start of an offsite. Everyone can simply get back to work afterwards.
Afternoon drinks
An hour and a half to two hours with unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks, from € 32,50 per person. The classic end-of-week outing. Works well to close a project phase or to welcome new colleagues.
Evening cruise with food
Two hours with fresh pizzas or a luxury sharing platter, from € 57,50 per person. Replaces the team dinner and saves you a restaurant booking for thirty.
Boat rental with your own programme
From € 250,- per hour for the whole boat. The right choice if you are arranging the content yourself, say an external speaker, a quiz or your own caterer.
What works on board and what doesn't
Works well: a word of welcome as people step aboard, a short look back at the year halfway through the cruise, a quiz about colleagues, and handing out something small. Anything brief that people can enjoy from their seats.
Works poorly: a presentation with slides. There is no screen, and daylight on an open boat makes a laptop unreadable. Do that at the office and save the cruise for the informal part.
Doesn't work: team building that requires moving around, group assignments with materials, or a programme that runs on a tight clock. A boat has its own pace.
Company branding is allowed. Flags, banners and decorations with your logo can come aboard, as long as they are secured and don't block the skipper's view.
Practical details for the organiser
Quote and invoice. For business groups we prepare a custom quote in advance. The invoice is issued in your company's name, so you can submit it straight away.
Numbers. Confirm the final headcount no later than a week in advance. Packages are priced from ten people, and the price per person stays the same above thirty.
Parking. The boarding point is on the edge of the city centre. Paid parking is available nearby for colleagues coming by car. Coming as a group? Gathering at the office and walking over together is usually more practical.
Accessibility. Boarding is from the quay with a step-up. Let us know in advance if a colleague has difficulty walking.
How to plan it
- Pick the time of day. That determines the format and the price more than anything else.
- Request a custom quote, so the costs are fixed for your internal sign-off.
- Confirm the final number of colleagues no later than a week in advance.
- Plan a word of welcome at boarding and keep the rest of the programme short.
- Share the boarding point and departure time, and agree that everyone arrives ten minutes early.
