Party boat hire in Zwolle

The sloop cruises with a party on board across the water outside Zwolle's city centre

In Zwolle's city centre, people live along the water. A noise limit applies there and we stick to it, even when the boat is all yours. Music at a pleasant level is always fine, but a party where you can feel the bass doesn't belong between the facades of the canal.

The solution is simple: we sail out of the city. Beyond the centre, where the waterway rules and the surroundings allow it, the volume can go up and the on-board sound system comes into its own. That does cost sailing time, so for a real party boat you book three hours instead of an hour and a half.

The sloop takes thirty people. Larger groups sail along in small electric boats around the main boat.

Where the volume can go up

In the city centre. The music plays at a level you can comfortably talk over. Fine for a drinks cruise, a birthday or a stag or hen do, not for a party with dancing.

Outside the centre. Once we're out of the city, there's more room. There the volume can go up, within what the waterway rules and conditions allow. The skipper decides on the spot what's responsible.

The trip out and back costs time. Allow about half an hour each way. On a ninety-minute cruise that leaves little party; with three hours you get a good two hours in the place where it's allowed.

Sorting the music on board

  • Your own playlist

You connect your phone to the sound system and play your own list. Prepare it beforehand and download it offline, because the connection on the water isn't stable everywhere.

  • One person in charge

Appoint one person in advance to run the music. Otherwise the whole cruise turns into switching tracks and no song ever finishes.

  • Your own DJ

A DJ with their own gear can come aboard. Mention it when booking, and we'll discuss power supply and where the set-up goes on board.

  • Volume and the skipper

The skipper has the final say on volume. That's not arbitrary: he needs to hear other traffic on the water and is responsible for safety on board.

Safety and house rules

Standing and dancing on a moving boat is fine, but not everyone on one side. The skipper says when everyone needs to sit down, at a bridge or when other boats pass, for example. That's non-negotiable.

Not allowed on board: smoke machines, fireworks, open flames, confetti, and throwing anything whatsoever overboard. If glass breaks on board we clean it up straight away, so report it immediately.

Jumping overboard is forbidden. The canal has boat traffic and the water quality isn't up to it.

The skipper can cut the cruise short if safety on board is at risk. That rarely happens, but it's good to know upfront.

How to plan it

  1. Decide whether you want loud music. If so, book at least three hours so there's time to sail out of the city.
  2. Prepare the playlist offline on one phone and appoint one person to run it.
  3. Tell us if a DJ with their own gear is coming aboard.
  4. Compare plain hire with your own drinks against a drinks package; the difference per person is big.
  5. Share the house rules with the group beforehand, so the skipper doesn't have to bring them up en route.

Frequently asked questions about party boat in Zwolle

How loud can the music be on the boat?

In Zwolle's city centre we're mindful of residents and the noise limits that apply, so there the music stays at a level you can talk over. Outside the centre the volume can go up, as long as the waterway rules and conditions allow. The skipper decides on the spot what's responsible.

Can we bring our own DJ?

Yes, a DJ with their own gear can come aboard. Mention it when booking, and we'll discuss the power supply and where the set can stand on board in advance.

How many people fit on the party boat?

Thirty people on the main boat. If the group is bigger, small electric boats sail alongside the sloop, one for every five extra people, at € 50,- per boat per hour.

Can we stand and dance on board?

Yes, but not everyone on one side, and not when the skipper says everyone needs to sit, at a bridge or when other boats pass, for example. Smoke machines, fireworks and confetti aren't allowed.

How long should we book for a real party?

Three hours. The trip out of the city and back costs about half an hour each way, so with an hour and a half there's too little time left in the place where the volume can go up.
